Martian Death Cold and other fun things

So, as predicted, I ended up sharing the cold that my daughter brought home and my wife then acquired. Blech. I truly hate being sick.
On the bright hand, I solved the problem of not having speakers for the new Mac. Amazing what you can come up with when you have a lot of time on your hands. A small FM transmitter plugged into the headphone jack combines nicely with a solar-powered emergency radio. Stereo isn't necessary, and if it was I'd just tune the main house stereo to the wavelength of this device.
Sickness aside, I ended up watching (mostly) the Golden Globes last night. Being semi-zoned, that meant that I watched a lot of the commercials, too. There was an ad for L'Oreal's "H.I.P. High Intensity PigmentsTM" makeup, with Scarlett Johansson looking like a refugee from an early Duran Duran video. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I had sort of hoped we'd left those days far behind us...
