Letting the punishment fit the crime
Jan. 18th, 2006 10:30 amSo the Cleveland Browns fan who ran onto the field during his team's 41-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Eve has been found guilty of disorderly conduct while intoxicated (big surprise there) and criminal trespass. The charges, while misdemeanors, add up to three days of jail time.
So this is the great part - the guy's a total football nut, right? The judge set his sentence to run over the Super Bowl weekend. And he's not going to have access to a TV or a radio during the jail time. Furthermore, he's not allowed to attend any football game for five years as a condition of his probation.
Now if I were a Browns fan, I wouldn't want to attend any games (although, as a follower of the 49ers and Raiders, I shouldn't be casting stones from my glass house). But you gotta figure that this will make an impression on the bozo...
