so our president just issued his first veto in 5 1/2 years of being president. And what did he veto? Not some enormous, bloated government spending bill... but a bill to enhance research using embryonic stem cells by expanding the available pool of cells to research.

Apparently this "crosses a moral line". To emphasize just which moral line was crossed, he was surrounded by cute children that were produced from "adopted embryos" - that is, leftover in vitro embryos that were implanted in women other than the ones for whom the original procedure was done.

While I agree that this is a nice idea, the fact remains that this won't happen to the majority of leftover embryos.

Basically, Bush is equating embryonic stem cell research with abortion. Bonehead!!!

Bush is an idiot. This will certainly help the Democrats in the upcoming races this fall. In particular the Michigan Governor's race, which has been very heated and a debate in stem cell research. MI currently doesnt allow it and it is hurting research and universities. Granholm wants to legalize it because it may cure terrible diseases and spur Economic development. Granholm has called for ending this ban, and she is promoting life sciences industries as part of her economic plan.
