axolotl9so our president just issued his first veto in 5 1/2 years of being president. And what did he veto? Not some enormous, bloated government spending bill... but a bill to enhance research using embryonic stem cells by expanding the available pool of cells to research.

Apparently this "crosses a moral line". To emphasize just which moral line was crossed, he was surrounded by cute children that were produced from "adopted embryos" - that is, leftover in vitro embryos that were implanted in women other than the ones for whom the original procedure was done.
While I agree that this is a nice idea, the fact remains that this won't happen to the majority of leftover embryos.
Basically, Bush is equating embryonic stem cell research with abortion. Bonehead!!!
