how does one explain to one's six-year-old that one of her favorite TV personalities is dead?

Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin was apparently killed by taking a stingray barb to the chest while filming north of Cairns, Australia.

(why do I have the feeling that he was probably doing something like attempting to pet the ray?)

anyway... this is not something that our darling oversensitive daughter needs to find out about right away, i suspect.

wow... I had NO idea that happened to that guy. Maybe there will be some sort of tribute section and your daughter will see it and understand... kids seem to be so much more... knowledgeable about death nowadays or something... less sensitive maybe. It's like my neighbors in LA have a lot of grandkids who just are so... old. They may not get what death is exactly, but they're the first to update me on the latest bombings (local or international), school shootings, and the recent passing of the oldest woman in San Jose.
