mixed bag this week
Feb. 28th, 2009 07:19 pmless than fun: I caught poison oak for the first time in about 20 years. it sucks just as much as I recall it did.
decent week at school. kids are getting squirrely as spring kicks into gear. two weeks of rainy weather probably didn't help, but we could still use more rain.
fun of the day: while browsing a downtown thrift store for paperbacks and other household essentials, I spotted a familiar-looking wooden case. In said case? Sure enough, a Tasco student microscope with 5 objective lenses, a 10-20x zoom eyepiece, and even some of the factory-prepared sample slides. It's very much like the one I had as a nerdy little kid, though mine is undoubtedly still buried in the depths of my parents' garage (the back room of which was my workshop/lab after my father moved his business into a proper office.). Naturally, I snapped it up ($7.50? you bet I did), and lovely daughter and I spent some entertaining time this afternoon peeking at insect parts under an assortment of magnifications.
