So this fine day, I got to sub for an ELD teacher.
ELD is "English Language Development", used to be ESL. So big communication barrier from the start (my Spanish is pretty limited - though I did have to have a chat with one kid who kept muttering variations on chinga under his breath in the corner.) Got through everything scheduled for the first two periods. And then....
Third period. The teacher had left a note that these were the "problem kids", but I'd have an aide to help with them.
No aide.
No class list until halfway through the class. Even then, the kids would only tell me who wasn't there, not identifying themselves... makes it hard to send someone to the office if you don't know the correct name to put on the referral form.
Out of control. Completely.
I did leave a long missive for their regular teacher- perhaps she'll be having a nice long chat with them tomorrow.
I certainly hope so, anyway.
