Okay. Just got back from a matinee of "The Lion King" at American Musical Theater of San Jose. Sadie's second theatrical experience (the first being "Peter Pan" at the same locale in 2004).
Wow. What a show. Far better than the movie. Being a former theater geek myself (recovering theater geek?), I spent lots of time looking at the costumes, sets, puppets and other gadgetry. The additional music by South African musician Lebo M fits nicely with the original stuff by Elton John and Tim Rice, as wellas, dare I say, emphasizing the African setting. Couple jokes at the expense of the elaborate sets (one character says a backdrop "looks like a shower curtain from Pier One."), but nothing really blatant.
Two thumbs up. Sorry, you can't see it unless you already had tickets - it's way sold out. (We got tickets through my mother back in November.)
