Johnny Hart, artist/writer of "B.C." and artist for "The Wizard of Id", apparently keeled over at his drawing table yesterday.
so in about a month, there ought to be two vacancies in most newspaper comic pages. (unless of course they pull a "Classics" maneuver as United Features has done with "Peanuts" - but I don't think either of those strips has the audience that "Peanuts" did/does.)
maybe, just maybe, some cartoonist whose sense of humor didn't ossify in the '70s can get a chance to have his (or maybe hers... although truthfully the only female newspaper cartoonist i can think of is *shudder* Cathy Guisewite) work displayed to a wider audience.
UPDATE: According to this MSNBC article, "B.C." and "The Wizard of Id" will continue, as they have "an extensive computer archive of Hart's drawings to work with." So, recycled art with probably recycled jokes as well. So much for getting my hopes up...
